THE QUEST FOR THIN PLACES.

Breaking things is easy. Rebuilding things is much more difficult. Once you have “deconstructed” from toxic religious beliefs, what is next? Moving from being “religious” to a rich life of spirituality is easier said than done.

The temptation for many people who deconstruct from an unhealthy form of dogmatic fundamentalism is to adopt a new form of non-religious dogmatic fundamentalism that is just as toxic.

Religious deconstruction is not a linear process. We won’t one day “arrive” and figure it all out. There is no “end” to the deconstructing and reconstructing cycle.

In this book, Dana Robert Hicks outlines a cyclical model of continuous deconstruction and reconstruction. The model helps facilitate the deepest longings of the human heart: the experiences of awe, wonder, and transcendence.

Now avaliable on Amazon, Audible, Spotify, Apple Books, and all the other places.

Wow! This book stands out among the many deconstruction books I’ve read. The number of insights and pearls of wisdom per page is well above average. Hicks writes in interesting and winsome ways while being honest and helpful. The Quest for Thin Places is hopeful without being pollyannish. I highly recommend this book!

The Quest for Thin Places is my new go-to recommendation for people on the deconstruction/reconstruction journey. It’s an honest, humorous, and intelligent way forward; something that many of us Christians or post-Christians or Jesus-followers or whatever it is we call ourselves these days will benefit from.
— JONATHAN J. FOSTER, Ph.D., Author of Indigo: The Color of Grief
Filled with meticulous research and poignant illustrations, The Quest for Thin Places skillfully explores the challenging journey of spiritual deconstruction and reconstruction with urgency yet humility. Hicks not only honors the complexities of spiritual evolution but also offers a compassionate roadmap for navigating both the difficulties and rewards of rediscovering meaning and truth. This book deserves wide and repeated reading.

Dana Hicks provides a well-researched smorgasbord of powerful, interesting research; authenticity in personal vulnerabilities; and insights. Always so honest…I appreciate his candor about painful experiences. This book provides many moments of thought-provoking explorations. I loved the many stories!

If you’re looking for a book to help explain why people deconstruct, this is the book for you! It’s one of the best books I’ve read explaining the process, helping understand why people deconstruct and giving deep psychological insights into what deconstruction actually looks like from the inside, out. Dana does an amazing job of connecting the dots in a way that is easy to read, but also challenging to the status quo. I highly recommend The Quest for Thin Places: How to Find Spirituality After Deconstruction to anyone looking for a deeper insight into deconstructing and reconstructing one’s religious beliefs.
